Continuing Education for Constables

The Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT), working under recent legislation from the 79th Texas Legislature, is pleased to announce the Continued Education for Constables Training. LEMIT is honored to have been chosen to provide this essential and important training. We have developed a new training curriculum that will encompass your needs as a law enforcement officer of the State of Texas. We are excited about the new curriculum and the important topics that will be covered.

This training is a mandated 40-hour block of continued education for all elected Constables of the State of Texas. It must be completed each 48 month period (four years). The course material will include: 8-hours of Ethics/Leadership as well as training in Budgeting, Writs, Citations, Collections, Detecting Deception, Media Relations, and Role/Duties of the constable.

The courses will all begin at 8:00 a.m. Monday and conclude on Friday. The class days will include a one-hour working lunch necessary for fulfilling the 40-hour requirement. Participants will be dismissed at noon on Friday to allow for more flexible travel time.

Please complete a registration form and submit it by mail or fax (936-294-1387) to the Institute as soon as possible. In submitting your registration form, space permitting, you will be registered for your choice of program and receive a confirmation letter. If all classes reach maximum capacity, you will be placed on a waiting list that may or may not be activated. If activated, you will be contacted by LEMIT, if not activated; we highly encourage you to keep referring to the web site for the next course dates of the following year and apply as soon as possible to guarantee a seat.

Because of the legislative mandate, we are only able to provide this course to the elected or appointed constables.  Deputy Constables are not eligible for this training at this time.
