The large lobby is lighted by the large windows that scale the front of the building. A tribute to Mr. Blackwood, who the building was named after, is located in the lobby.

The Pope Room was dedicated to Mr. Jack Pope in April of 2002. He was a peace officer with the McAllen Police Department for many years.

His only sibling, Dorothy Pope, was generous enough to donate several of his belongings to Sam Houston State University. This room serves as a tribute to the life of dedicated law enforcement officers.

The LEMIT library is still under construction, but when it is completed it will contain helpful information on law enforcement for participants.

This is an example of one of the LEMIT buidling classrooms. They are fully equiped to meet the needs of any speaker.

The newest addition to the LEMIT building is the Incident Command Suite. Consisting of three rooms, this suite is home to LEMIT's Incident Command Simulation Training (InCoSiT) program. The primary classroom is designed with the ability to monitor the training room while also conducting traditional classroom instruction. The training room consists of a hi-tech array of computers, monitors, and software to simulate an acctual event for participants to handle. The third room has a two way mirror for the technicle advisor to monitor and record the events taking place in the training room.
