Welcome Newly Appointed/Elected Texas Police Chief!
Congratulations! If you are a first-time Texas Police Chief, then you are at the right place...
In 1997, the Texas Legislature passed HB 1881, which established police chief training in Texas. The bill mandates all persons who become chief of police after January 1, 1999, to attend eighty hours of training within two years of their appointment date. The New Chief Development Program (NCDP) and Texas Police Chief Leadership Series (TPCLS) were developed to provide this training.
Texas Police Chiefs have an excellent opportunity to receive quality executive training by attending:
Part I - New Chief Development Program (NCDP) - 40 hour session - Scheduled three times a year and always in Huntsville at the LEMIT building. NCDP addresses the professional development and job-related skills necessary to perform successfully in the police chief role.

Part II - Texas Police Chief Leadership Series (TPCLS) - 40 hour session - Scheduled in Huntsville at the LEMIT building as well as regionally throughout Texas. You can access more information about TPCLS and the training schedule from LEMIT’s homepage.
