1) 15th World Congress on Criminology - Barcelona, Spain - July 20-25, 2008

The 15 th World Congress of Criminology will be hosted by the International Society for Criminology (ISC) in Barcelona , Spain in July 2008. A non-governmental professional organization, the ISC has operated for 70 years and currently boosts approximately 1,000 members from all areas of criminal justice and criminology. The organization also holds advisory status at the UN and the Council of Europe and is represented by a delegate in nearly 50 countries.

The ISC's 15 th World Congress of Criminology has a theme of "Crime & Criminology: Research & Action" and will focus upon the areas of transnational crime, urban crime, as well as victims and restorative justice. The ISC is currently calling for papers in these areas (deadline December 15, 2007) for presentation at the conference. The World Congress of Criminology, which only takes place once every five years, presents an uncommon opportunity to both congregate and collaborate with criminal justice experts from diverse disciplines and systems of criminal justice.

2) International Terrorism and Organized Crime Conference - Anaheim, California - August 25-29, 2008

The International Terrorism and Organized Crime Conference is going to be held August 25-29, 2008 in Anaheim, California. The theme of this year’s conference will be “Globalization.” Presentations will be given by renowned experts in the areas of Terrorism and Organized Crime. Attending this conference offers a unique networking opportunity to individuals specializing in Terrorism and Organized Crime, though any member of sworn law enforcement is welcome and encouraged to attend. Attendees average around 1000 people from over 25 countries and the United States.

Anaheim, California is a city in the infamous Orange County and is notably home to Disneyland. Anaheim is known primarily for its theme parks and sports teams. Anaheim has a night life, but if that’s where your interest is, don’t forget Los Angeles is only 30 miles away and has a host of popular nightclubs, including the Viper Room. Be sure to pay a visit to the lush beaches while on the coast!

3) The 46th International Association of Women Police Conference - Policing New Territory - Darwin, Australia- September 6-11, 2008

The 46th International Association of Women Police (IAWP) Annual Training Conference will be held September 6-11, 2008 in Darwin, Australia. The conference theme is “Policing New Territory” and all events will reflect this theme, focusing on the evolving law enforcement environment as well as the evolution of crime in today’s society. The IAWP Annual Training Conference will focus on four specific aspects: “Leading by example”, “Policing a career of choice”, “Strengthening Partnerships”, and “The Changing Face of Crime”. Speakers will be renowned practitioners and researchers who have aided in revolutionizing the face of today’s law enforcement.

Darwin is a city located on the northern coast in Australia’s Northern Territory. The city offers an exciting night life, miles of unpolluted beaches, countless parks and gardens, sporting events, music and art festivals, and ample access to historical, social, and landscape tourism.

4) International Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Conference and Exposition- San Diego, California- November 8-12, 2008

The International Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Conference and Exposition will be held November 8-12, 2008 in San Diego, California. Law enforcement executives present real life experiences and lessons learned while exploring new technologies and current issues in law enforcement. An estimated 15,000 officers will be present at this year’s conference that boasts of over 700 companies showcasing their latest technological gadgets and services. This expo is free to law enforcement officers and executives. This conference offers many unique networking opportunities due to the wealth of information shared by those with first-hand experience and the access to companies with the latest products and services for law enforcement.

San Diego has a very active art scene, featuring museums for a broad variety of types of art. The primary staples of San Diego are the San Diego Zoo, Sea World-San Diego, the San Diego Wildlife Park, and Legoland. For those interested in history, San Diego has a host of historical sites that speak to the cities Spanish influence. San Diego also has a large surfing and skateboarding culture for those interested.
