Basic Internal Affairs

The Basic Internal Affairs course provides law enforcement leaders and investigators with a foundational understanding of the principles, procedures, and legal framework governing internal investigations. Designed for chiefs, agency administrators, internal affairs investigators, and supervisory personnel, the program examines why internal investigations are essential to maintaining integrity and public trust within policing. Participants explore the factors within the law enforcement environment that can lead to misconduct, the legal context surrounding internal inquiries, and eleven core investigative principles that guide ethical and effective case management. Through instruction on evidence gathering, interview techniques, and case formatting, as well as real-world case studies and scenarios, attendees develop the practical and analytical skills needed to conduct thorough, impartial, and defensible internal investigations.
